I chose to do a classic wedding scene: A photo with the guests and the bride and groom at the altar. Central composition, focusing on the center of the image and using leading lines to guide the viewers straight to the couple. The difference was that we were there at night and with candlelight, I had to be more candid. That day I took a prism in my pocket and felt the urge to use it on the top of the lens, thus creating a super interesting reflection. This helped the composition slightly as it took details away from the lights and made the sharpness of the couple more dominant.

The way the EXIF is written out follows the common photographic method (with the inclusion of White Balance at the end). Here it is broken down:
Shutter Speed @ Aperture ISO White Balance.
There were two LED lights up at the alter pointing towards the couple so they were lit during this dark evening time. Without them, they would completely be lost. So, it worked out in my favour. From where I was shooting, it was a backlit situation and so I just needed to make sure I expose correctly for the enviornment and the couple as to not blow out anything.

I used one of my own presets which were normally built for the reception and so I had to tweak it and adjust it quite a bit. Since this was at night, I didn’t want to edit it so hard that the atmosphere would be lost, but instead, just accentuated everything there. I kept everything as simple as possible without pushing the sliders too hard.
My biggest challenge was whether to use flash, LED or natural light.
I realised that with the LEDs up in the front, that I could ultimately use natural light as thats my preferred method.

Sometimes we get stuck in creating something that has never been created, something we want to know where to create. With this event, I realized that basically, I don’t need to try to create something new, but to do what everyone else does only better, only more authentic, with my photographic language.
