This wedding was awesome! The couple is amazing, they knew how to enjoy the day and enjoy it like no other! That day was epic! They were so happy after the ceremony and wanted to enjoy it, and all the people who attended had the same vibe too. This photo is at that moment where everyone stands still and waits for that protocol photo, but they are nothing like that, so the photo came out like this.

How did you direct your subject(s)?

They were standing still and we took the most traditional photo, but soon after we asked them to enjoy and talk, talk to each other and enjoy the moment.

What did you say?

The traditional photo is over, now I want to see who you really are! let’s go!

How did you compose your image?

We put them in the middle, but we also wanted to add emphasis to the place as it has beautiful trees and the house at the back creates a great composition, so we chose to photograph this group photo in portrait orientation to include the scale of the trees while also keeping our group in the lower third to allow the space for everything to be in the image.

How and what did you focus on?

We simply focused on the bridesmaids and kept our aperture relatively wide open to ensure that they would all be focused.

How did you use the light in your image?

The sun had already gone down and the light we had was a softer light, so we had no difficulty using the light we had available. This also meant that we could focus more on the composition than where our group was in relation to the light, since the softness played to our advantage.

What was the gear & settings you used?

Canon 5D Mark IV

Canon EF 24mm f/2.8

Shutter Speed

White Balance

How did you edit your image & what did you use?

We used our own preset and just adjusted the shadows and highlights to get the overall tone & exposure we were after. It was a very simple image to edit as the light was also very forgiving. Sometimes an image doesn’t need to have hours and hours spent on it to bring out the best of it.

Software Used

Adobe Lightroom Classic

What challenges did you face?

The biggest difficulty is getting spontaneity from a more traditional photo

How did you solve them?

The more intimacy you have with a couple, the easier it is for you to get more candid and fun-filled photos.

Can you share any last thoughts or advice?

Your clients’ wedding day is also a day of your life! We have to enjoy our own moments, our work, and every living moment we have. We owe it to ourselves and to the couple.
