Unique Wedding - Love

We went with the couple to a very wild and remote place where nobody goes, so we could relax with good music and cool energy. We always shoot with music and we make sure to get to know our couple before we start so we have a stronger connection to them. This is so important in getting them to trust us and to completely relax in front of our lens. We are also able to talk to them about their lives, and even bring up memories for them which help with the emotions that they share in the shoot.

For this shot, we didn’t actually direct them too much. We simply put on some music and told them to feel the moment and the music and we gave them enough space to really feel it.

How did you compose your image?

Since we really wanted to capture the emotions of this moment, we decided to go really close to the couple without disturbing them. We needed to make sure that we had the eyes, the hands, and the intimacy in the shot so we framed it so. We filled the frame with the couple to make it feel even more intimate; as if the viewer was right there amongst the moment. And this is important because the couple is the “main” viewers. We want them to look at these photos and be taken back to that beautiful moment.

How and what did you focus on?

We wanted to make sure that the eyes were in focus since the girl was having a little tear. This was important to convey the emotion of the shot so we positioned our focus point over her eye and took the photo.

How did you use the light in your image?

Since the day was very cloudy, we had no problems with where we placed our couple. The little bit of light we did have though was coming from behind them which did help to create a soft backlight. This helps the couple stand out from the background as it creates a very gentle outline of light around them. Though in this shot it’s not so visible as the light simply wasn’t intense enough.

How did you edit your image & what did you use?

For this image, we didn’t actually use a preset at all. We felt that the vision we had with it didn’t lie in any of the presets we already worked with and we wanted to try something new. A bit brighter and cleaner. We reduced the contrast and played with the highlights and shadows to get the overall tones that we liked. We also kept the clarity quite low to add to the softness. For the curves, we kept it quite simple and adjusted the red and blue curves to help find a cooler skin tone. We finally ran it through Alien Skin Exposure to add the grain.

Software Used

Adobe Lightroom Classic

What challenges did you face?

It can be challenging to really get to know the couple before the shoot in such a short time.

How did you solve them?

Try and find a way to speak to them for a little while and get to know all their good moments and even bad moments in their life. It will help to make such a strong connection with your couple.

Can you share any last thoughts or advice?

One of the most important parts of any shoot is the connection with the couple. It’s worth every minute spent getting to know the couple as the trust that they eventually give you can open up so much emotion and beauty.
