Directions

Describe how you spoke to your subject(s)

we were in a gym (nilson nelson) there are several very large concrete structures in them, ask the couple to go up and walk to the middle of them, and I positioned myself below, so that I could frame them and leave the image as clean as possible

What did you say?

go to the middle, when you get there look up and close your eyes

Composition

I framed them in the cleanest and most minimalist way possible, because I believe that a lot of information in the photo takes the focus away from what really matters, which are the characters you want to bring attention to. I composed this image in a such a way that the lines of the building would go right across the frame, creating a split in the image but also a form of symmetry. It’s not exactly straight, but this was intentional to add interest and help the compositional lines.

Focusing

Describe how you spoke to your subject(s)

I concentrated on what was important, symmetry and character. I put my focus point over one of the subjects and let the camera lock on through autofocus.

The way the EXIF is written out follows the common photographic method (with the inclusion of White Balance at the end). Here it is broken down:

Shutter Speed @ Aperture ISO White Balance.

Light & Weather

it was cloudy, so the light interfered very little with the scenery and was very soft and easy to work with. This soft light also free’s up a bit of mental space to create such a photo as I wasn’t restricted by unwanted harsh light or a certain direction of it.

Editing Workflow

How did you edit this image?

in the creation process I already knew that this photo would be black and white, as it would emphasize the symmetry and the characters, so I just applied it

Challenges

The challenge of this photo was to find the correct point where I would eliminate as much information as possible and leave the photo as clean as possible.
