Amaris Sachs Active since 2018
I believe that capturing the beauty of life & connection is what I’m here on earth to do. I can’t imagine existing without stories and the ability to push my boundaries as a person. I am a documentary wedding & editorial photographer based on the East Coast. At the center of my work is a commitment to authenticity, intention & excellence from beginning to end. My background development in dance has equipped me to have an intrinsic understanding of lines, movement & harmony between moving pieces. Seeking out excellent food experiences, securing new perspectives in familiar places, running around barefoot and learning to breathe deeper are my bread and butter. I hope you feel welcome here.

Quick Questions

Get to know me Insights
What is a fun fact about you?
I am in the top 98th percentile of fine motor hand dexterity. Essentially I can pick up tiny things and steadily maneuver them. Have a knot in your necklace chain? I’ve got you.
How did you land your first wedding?
My old dance studio used to have action & portrait photos taken every spring and winter. I reconnected with the photographer and shadowed a wedding before setting out on my own.
Who or what inspires you?
I find my deepest inspirations align with the same things I felt as a child. Texture, motion, music, cinema, light and connection with self & others. Breathing in and sinking deeper into the present pushes me further into myself. There’s inspiration in every nook and cranny; we just have to slow down. Some artists I love include Wes Anderson, Joe Greer, Kaley Kocinski, Sharon Van Etten & Future Islands.
What were you doing before you became a photographer?
I spent the first 20 years of my life on a direct career track to becoming a professional ballerina. It’s all I knew and all I believed I could be. Turns out, storytelling & art evolves within each of us. The opportunities are boundless. Keep making and destroying your own boxes of limitations.
What’s your favourite thing about being a wedding photographer?
No moment is the same. No person is the same and people are endlessly interesting. It’s a gift in itself to be invited into someone’s space. It’s vulnerable and a beautiful, trusting experience. The invitation to see people as they are is what I love most.

What I wish I knew Personal

Be who you are. It’s okay to be different. You don’t need to be like everyone else or have their pace in order to make meaningful art.
